Our Beautiful Beaches

Stonehame is a short drive (20-30 minutes) from several beautiful beaches situated along the Northumberland Shore. The Northumberland Shore features more beach parks than anywhere else in Nova Scotia and enjoys the warmest salt water in Atlantic Canada. The warm salt water helps keep away the summer fog that is so prevalent in other Maritime environments and summer time water temperatures often exceed 22 degrees Celsius. A day at the beach is just one of many seaside activities to experience while exploring the Northumberland Shore. So pack a picnic, bring your best pail and shovel, suit and shades, don't forget your sunscreen and prepare to relax in the sand and warm water.

Rushton's Beach Provincial Park
Located near Marshville on Route 6, the Sunrise Trail (approximately 30 minutes from Stonehame). A beautiful sandy beach washed by the warm waters of the Northumberland Strait. Picnic grounds, toilets and change facilities are all accessible from this area.

Waterside Beach Provincial Park
Located 3 kms off route 6, the Sunrise Trail at Waterside (appr. 25 minutes from Stonehame). The beach is accessible from boardwalks constructed to protect sand dunes. This beautiful sand beach offers warm waters and facilities such as picnic tables, change rooms, toilets and ample parking.

Melmerby Beach Provincial Park
Recently ranked as one of Canada's most beautiful beaches by Yahoo Travel, Melmerby Beach is located 16 kms north of Trans Canada Highway 104, exit 25 on route 289, turn right at Shore Road (appr. 30 minutes from Stonehame). A popular mile-long beach with two sides - an outer broad sandy beach with warm water and a narrow inner beach with very warm water. The beach has change houses, salt rinse showers, pit and flush toilets, full canteen service and is supervised by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service during posted times. Boardwalks have been established to minimize damage to fragile dunes.
